William and Verona Lashley Foundation gifts supplies, prizes to St. John Primary School

Principal Ms. Margaret Grant accepts school supplies for the entire school.

Students of the St John’s Primary School have been encouraged to follow their school motto Strive ever for the best in order to achieve success while avoiding the negative practices that seem to be engulfing our society. That advice came from former Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture, attorney-at-law Stephen Lashley as he made a presentation of prizes and materials to the school on behalf of the William and Verona Lashley Foundation, a charity established in memory of his parents William Lashley and Verona Lashley who also attended the school. Lashley, himself a former student of the school, complimented principal Margaret Grant, the teachers and students for the excellence they had achieved together at the school. He made special mention of the pleasant deportment of the students and the dedication of the teachers in maintaining high standards. He reminded the students that they should not allow anyone to prevent them from achieving their goals and he encouraged those students who recently took the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination and who would be entering secondary school in September that it was important for them to continue the good practices they were taught at the primary level, namely being punctual, attentive to their studies and obedient to their teachers.

“While the summer holidays will be a period for relaxing and having fun, I want you to exercise care in whatever you do, especially when you go to the beach or walk along the busy roads. Use some of the time to read and go over the work you did during the last year”, he said.

Lashley pledged that the foundation will continue to support the school and he urged the students to make good use of the donated school supplies. ]]>
