Crop Over 2023 got even sweeter as the series of RUBIS Crop Over Thursdays climaxed with gifts and prizes for everyone in an event filled with music and merriment at the Eagle Hall RUBIS Service Station.

The Crop Over Thursday excitement peaked following three weeks of fun and prizes throughout July touching various Rubis locations before the grand finale at Eagle Hall, where the usually busy station overflowed with activity. An opportunity to play the spin-the-wheel game was among the most popular activities. With every $50 spent in Ultra Tec fuel, customers got a chance to spin for prizes, including cooler sets, cups, umbrellas, bags, dominoes, and a variety of “I Love Crop Over” prizes.

Officials of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) were also on hand to join in the festivities and welcomed the move by Rubis to bring even more visibility to the festival.

“We need all the help we can get,” said NCF’s marketing officer Paula Anne Jackman. “We’re so happy to have RUBIS on board, not just from a financial perspective, but with an event like this where you are getting the Crop Over spirit happening right here on the corner of Eagle Hall. That helps to drive the entire festival. It’s not just about the huge events; it’s about these small pockets in the community, so we are delighted to see RUBIS doing this,” she added.

During the evening, the NCF received a sponsorship of $2 500 in gift cards to be used as prizes in the upcoming Soca 4.0 event.

RUBIS’ Retail Accounts Executive, Amina Green made the presentation to an elated Jackman who welcomed the sponsorship noting that the value of the partnership went beyond just financial contributions.

“We want to see so much more coming for Crop Over 2024 and for NIFCA coming up later this year, because we absolutely need it. It helps us from the grassroots level right up to the bigger events like Pic-O-De-Crop on August 4 and Soca 4.0 on August 6.

Rubis’ marketing manager Andrea Gooding said the company was happy to continue its partnership with the NCF to support the Crop Over Festival and Barbadian culture. She said in addition to the gift card donation more than $3 000 in free Crop Over event tickets had been presented to lucky customers.

“We want to support Barbadian culture, and what better way to do this than to contribute to our premier cultural festival, Crop Over. We also appreciate the work that the NCF does. Having worked with them last year as well, we decided this year to launch Crop Over Thursdays to promote the festival, and celebrate with our customers, partners and the NCF.”
