Dominus blows away Hurricane in Breeders Sprint

By Kent Layne

It was to be a showdown between the top Creole sprinter in Barbados Dominus and 2022 triple crown champion Hurricane in the Btba Breeders Sprint for locally bred horses on Saturday.

Defending champion of the Breeders Sprint Dominus  rocketed out of the starting gates into the lead in the 1100 meter future race, as 8\5 in the betting Hurricane trail the field of six.

Cruisin over the hill past the basketball count approaching the three-furlong marker, jockey Rey Williams was sitting chilly over Dominus as he went through fractions of 25.2 and 48.4.

Dominus responded to the hand ride of his jockey as The Code made a late rally to much excitement and roar from the grandstand but had to settle for second behind Dominus just like last year.

Jericho finished third and equaled his brother Joshua’s place of last year, Hurricane finished fourth. The winning time was 105.4.

Winning owner Sir David Seale is having a fantastic time winning the feature race last race day with Brilliant News also trained by Andrew Nunes and was ridden by Rey Williams.

Races will continue on September 9.
