Local News News BRA putting properties on auction block Marlon Madden14/11/202301.3K views The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) has served notice to land tax defaulters that it plans to put more than 40 parcels of land under the hammer to recover millions of dollars in arrears. The lot sizes range from as little as 1 286 square feet to as much as 7.9 hectares (approximately 19.5 acres) and are spread across all parishes. In the notice, which was served over the weekend, the BRA said it would be auctioning the properties on December 13, 2023, per Section 34 of the Land Tax Act, Cap 78A. The land owners of the 44 parcels of land will have until the day of the auction to come up with the arrears and reclaim their land. The majority of the properties to be auctioned are located in the parish of St Michael (18); followed by St Lucy (5); St James and St Thomas, four each; St George (3); and two each in St Peter, Christ Church, St Philip and St John; and one each in St Joseph and St Andrew. Should the auction take place next month, it will be the second time this year that the revenue collection agency will have put dozens of properties on the auction block. The last time was in early June. (MM)
