Dario Dvon’s 1st musical — The Voice That Colours The Silence — is ‘deeply personal’

Dario Dvon continues to make his mark as a Barbadian recording artiste. He recently released his first music video for his song Sunshine, which has been topping the Selecta Charts since its release on September 8.

He was all smiles as he spoke glowingly about the success of his debut music video.

“It is truly amazing to see the positive outcomes that stem from the hard work and dedication I invested into my music. I am eternally thankful for the support of the dreamers who inspire me to shine on,” Dvon said.

On the heels of his debut song, Dvon has performed his first musical The Voice That Colours The Silence at Theatre Passe Muraille in Canada where he currently resides.

“The Voice That Colours The Silence is a deeply personal and socially impactful musical, which eloquently amplifies the narratives of voiceless Black and LGBTQ+ individuals,” he said.

“It is deeply rooted in my own personal journey as a queer Black artist as it explores themes of self-discovery, self-acceptance and the intersection of homophobia and racism. I collaborated with a diverse team and drew on various musical styles to address these important social issues.

“This project is not just artistically compelling but also socially transformative as it provides a platform for difficult conversations and offers a beacon of hope and inspiration to any individual striving for acceptance and self-expression,” he added.

Dvon added that the process of creating the musical was a dream come true as he has always enjoyed musicals from the time he was a child. He fondly remembers enjoying Annie and Oliver Twist. Thus, the experience to create and perform his own was a circle of life moment for him.

“I am seeking to have more performances of the musical as I am currently expanding the reach and have sought to have a visual for the musical so it can be accessed by anyone from anywhere. I am truly blessed to be doing music and making the things that felt like only dreams a reality. I am often reminded to enjoy the journey, the wins, big or small and that ‘winners never quit, and quitters never win,’” he said.

And he is definitely enjoying his musical journey as he’ll be releasing new music for the Yuletide season and was scheduled to open for international recording artiste Londrelle on December 8.

Dvon’s advice to young aspiring artistes is to continue to writetheir story of life.

“In this life we are only given one pen and with that pen you write the story of your life. You control what your story looks like, the thoughts you have about the people around, the thoughts you have about where you want to go and the thoughts you have about what you want to do,” he said.

“Have positive thoughts and not only think and dream but apply action to the goals in your life. You hold the pen, what story shall you write?”
