S Secretary of State Antony Blinken is among officials who will attend today’s high-level meeting on Haiti in Jamaica, the US State Department has announced.

It says Blinken will travel to Kingston to discuss the “proposal developed in partnership with CARICOM and Haitian stakeholders to expedite a political transition in Haiti through the creation of a broad-based, independent presidential college as well as the deployment of a Multinational Security Support Mission to address the ongoing security crisis.”

CARICOM heads have also invited the United Nations, France, Canada and Brazil to today’s meeting.
It is unclear whether Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry will be in Jamaica.

CARICOM heads have been working to get key Haitian stakeholders to agree to form an umbrella transitional unity government.
