Venezuelan, Bajans remanded in connection with $8.2M drug find

Venezuelan national and three locals were remanded to Dodds on multiple drug charges after appearing before Magistrate Carolyn Ward-Sargeant at the District ‘B’ Magistrates Court on Thursday.

They are 33-year-old Wilmer Hueto of Venezuela; Christopher Johnson, 41, of Bannister Land, Martindales Road, St Michael; Roland Coward, 42 of Salters Land, St George; and Zico Graham, 34, of Simmons Land, Rendezvous, Christ Church. They have been charged with possession, trafficking, and possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking cannabis.

Police said the total value of the drugs is $8.28 million.

The four were arrested last Thursday after officers from the Narcotics Unit of the Barbados Police Service intercepted a vessel about 18 nautical miles southwest of South Point, Christ Church, which is within Barbados’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

A search of the vessel uncovered several packages containing cannabis, weighing 609.1 kilogrammes, and other packages containing 68.15 kilogrammes of cocaine.

The accused are scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday, May, 2.
