Teen remanded on theft charge

Teenager Milek Joshua Johnson was remanded to Dodds on Tuesday for 28 days on a theft charge.

Johnson, 19, from 2nd Avenue, Deanes Village, Hindsbury, St Michael appeared before Magistrate Angela Knight accused of stealing four rims and tyres belonging to Tameisha Holder between July 1 and 2. Johnson denied the charge.

When it came time for bail Sergeant Richard Ellis objected on the strength of the evidence, Johnson’s prior record, and because Johnson was already on bail.

The prosecutor also informed the District ‘A’ Traffic Court magistrate that the accused had only been granted bail on July 6.

In his application, Johnson stated: “I feel that I should get bail.”

He said that when he was granted his pretrial liberty on the last occasion he was picked up by police on the “steps of the courtroom and placed in handcuffs”.

After hearing submissions from both sides, the magistrate told the accused that his bail application was denied at this time but he was free to renew it when he makes his next appearance on September 3.
