Camp Vision inspires young minds

hildren who took part in this year’s National Library Service (NLS) summer programme, Camp Vision, enjoyed a thrilling day out on Wednesday, proudly displaying their artistic creations in the bustling heart of The City.

 

The entrepreneurial showcase, held at Freedom Park, featured an array of imaginative works, including necklaces, chains, purses, and various art pieces, much to the delight of both the children and their counsellors.

 

Beverly Archer, the acting deputy director of the library, told Barbados TODAY that the camp’s objective over the past four weeks was to cultivate a robust entrepreneurial spirit among the youth.

 

“The camp was an entrepreneurial camp [which taught] the children what it is like to be an entrepreneur, to be in business, or potentially to [explore] what future careers they might want to pursue,” Archer explained.

 

Archer also revealed that at the Tamarind Hall branch of the library in the rural parish of St Joseph, lessons on navigating the world of work proved immensely popular among the campers. The programme, Pave Your Path, allowed the participants to explore career options and learn about the realities of entering the workforce.

 

“They received guidance on writing CVs, appropriate workplace behaviour, and what to expect if they were to work for a day or two,” the librarian said.

 

Archer noted that the response from parents and campers to this year’s entrepreneurship theme has been overwhelmingly positive.

 

” The children were very enthusiastic,” she said, while adding that professionals from various entrepreneurial fields were there to inspire them, helping them express their passions and even earn some money.

 

“As you know most things are surrounded by economics and finance, so yes, they learnt a little bit about finance and how to manage their money within banking systems.”
