A Barbados TODAY team visited the popular Browne’s Beach where scores were enjoying picnics on the white sandy beach, while others opted for a sea bath or engaged in water sports. Leigh Philips, a Grenadian who lives here, told Barbados TODAY that after enjoying her birthday on Christmas Day, she decided to close out the holiday break with a relaxing day at the beach with family. “So I am a Christmas baby, [Christmas day] it was wonderful. It was a pretty quiet holiday, spent it with family, my brother is currently in from Belize, and we all went to my sister’s house with my mom and we just had brunch. “You know a little bakes and salt fish, of course the macaroni pie with the stew, a lil birthday cake in between and then opened presents,” She explained. Philips, who sings professionally locally, said that on previous holidays she was busy working and she pleased to slow down this year. She added: “My hope and aspiration for the new year is just to continue to have an enjoyable life, continued health, greater success, more travel, and that is it.” Meanwhile Shara Bourne who was enjoying the day with her daughter, said the Christmas season was relaxing and peaceful. “It was quiet, I just stayed at home with my daughter, I cooked a light meal, nothing too fancy, that was basically it. I did not really plan to [come to Browne’s beach] but my daughter just wanted to get out of the house, so I decided to come down and spend a relaxing afternoon before I go back into work tomorrow.” When asked what her hopes are for 2025, she quickly said:“I would really love an ease in the cost of living, cheaper prices in the supermarkets would be great.” One visitor from England to the island, who only gave his name as Tom, said he was pleased to be in Barbados for the holidays, adding “It’s truly a blast being here. Don’t want to go home.” shamarblunt@barbadostoday.bb
