BWU successfully negotiates benefits for KFC workers

The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) has successfully negotiated increased benefits for KFC workers, including a nine per cent salary increase. The gains will benefit around 300 workers and will be implemented soon.

Deputy Director of Industrial Relations Kamisha Benjamin made the announcement  at the union’s Solidarity House headquarters this morning. Union officials said that this was a major milestone in the fast food industry, as it will raise the bar for working hours, wages and working conditions at other restaurants.

The workers, who had been calling for better treatment for decades, were overjoyed at the breakthrough, and thanked the union for their support. (SZB)
