Windies women climb ICC ODI rankings

The West Indies women’s cricket team has made significant strides in the latest ICC ODI rankings, with notable improvements from key players.

Batters Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph both surged up the rankings after strong performances in their most recent series against England, with Alleyne jumping from 91st to 76th and Joseph climbing from 104th to 82nd.

Alleyne impressed with a brisk 44 off 46 deliveries, while Joseph anchored the innings with a composed 62 from 74 balls. Captain Hayley Matthews held firm at fourth place in the batters’ rankings, maintaining her status as one of the format’s elite players.

In the bowling rankings, England’s Sophie Ecclestone retained her position at the top, with the top six remaining unchanged. However, Matthews’ all-round brilliance continued to shine as she moved up to seventh place (from ninth) following her economical spell of 2 for 49 in the opening match.

In the meantime, Matthews has been shortlisted for the ICC Player of the Month. The Barbadian has earned recognition for her outstanding all-round performances in ODIs and T20Is during May. She is joined by all-rounder Chloe Tryon of South Africa and batter Jemimah Rodrigues of India, both of whom have demonstrated strong performances in ODIs. (CMC)
