Entrepreneur denies assault and wounding allegations

A 26-year-old St Lucy entrepreneur has been remanded to Dodds Prison after appearing in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on multiple charges of assault, damage, and wounding.

Daniel Antoine Shaquon Stoute of Broomfield denied unlawfully assaulting Lourdes Herrera; damaging a chain belonging to Herrera; and unlawfully and maliciously wounding Joely Castillo.

Sergeant Reginald Blackman objected to bail, citing the strength of the evidence and noting that Stoute is already on bail from the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on another matter.

However, defence attorney Kristin Vanderpool argued that his client’s current bail status should not automatically disqualify him from bail in the new case. He noted that Stoute’s previous convictions were not of a similar nature and that there was no evidence he would abscond.

Vanderpool also said the accused was willing to comply with any bail conditions imposed by the court.

However, Magistrate Manila Renee denied bail, and Stoute was remanded until August 7.
