Cruise passenger detained after security breach at Bridgetown Port

A cruise passenger was taken into police custody Friday night after breaching a security checkpoint at the Port of Bridgetown while attempting to return to a ship. A Port Security Officer was reportedly injured during the incident and subsequently received medical assistance.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Barbados Port Inc. said the passenger was pursued by officers of the Port’s Security Department and the Customs and Excise Department. The Barbados Police Service was alerted and responded to bring the situation under control.

Port authorities said the incident is now formally a police matter.

No further details have been provided, including the nationality of the passenger.

The port reiterated that the safety and well-being of staff and all port users remain a top priority, adding that they will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure all safety and security protocols are reinforced. (PR/BT)
