Crime Prevention Officer with The Barbados Police Service (TBPS), Inspector Roger Babb, is again urging members of the public to stay in control as they celebrate and enjoy this holiday season.

Inspector Babb said some people might take a drink at this time, but he urged them not to engage in practices which will put their lives and others at risk. He reminded motorists that drinking and driving may result in fatal accidents.

The Crime Prevention Officer shared the following tips to help persons get through the festive season safely:

  • Do not drink and drive; always have a sober designated driver.
  • Not drinking alcohol is an option; do not feel pressured to drink. It is okay to say no.
  • Drinking alcohol impairs your ability to make good decisions.
  • If you drink, do so in moderation and never leave your drink unattended.
  • Do not let anyone bring a drink for you.
  • To avoid having your drinks spiked, buy your own drinks, and watch the bartender make or open them.
  • If you think your drink was tampered with, let someone know and seek medical attention.
  • Be cautious with strangers and do not accept drinks from them.
  • Never mix alcohol with other drugs.
