The donation was made during a brief visit on Sunday to Carter, who is currently hospitalised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Members of the Fusionz team presented her with a gift basket and cheque, a gesture that left Carter visibly emotional and “at a loss for words”. Speaking to Barbados TODAY, Fusionz Boutique employee Roger Agard said the decision to assist was driven by widespread public awareness of Carter’s situation. “We’ve been hearing about Akira Carter on social media for quite a while, and Fusionz Boutique decided to reach out and lend some assistance,” Agard said. “It’s a situation where a person needs help, and we thought it would be good to give back to the community.” Meanwhile, manager at Fusionz, Ulanda Williams said the gesture was also personal, noting that Carter is a longtime customer of the business. “She’s not just a person in need…she’s also a very valued customer of Fusionz. We do appreciate being able to be of some assistance in this desperate situation,” Williams said. She explained that the company’s contribution was intended not only to assist Carter but to encourage wider corporate support. “That’s our main aim – for other businesses to see what we’ve done and follow through,” Williams said. “If corporate Barbados comes together, we can help many others who are in need.” In late December 2025, Carter suddenly became ill, with her condition deteriorating rapidly, leaving her fully paralysed in her legs and partially paralysed in her hands. She is now seeking urgent specialised treatment overseas and continues to raise funds locally to cover the cost.
