Woman to be sentenced nightclub attack

A 36-year-old general worker from Christ Church will return to the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to wounding another woman during a nightclub altercation.

Shamika Zanita Derrick, of Gall Hill, admitted that on February 7th she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Charmaine Godding.

The court heard that the two had previously been friends before falling out, and that on the date in question, they were both at a nightclub in St Lawrence Gap.

Prosecutor Troy Tudor said that Godding saw the accused walking towards her while leaving the bathroom and then felt an object hit the side of her face. She looked up and saw Derrick lunge towards her, tried to protect her face, and then saw blood on her hands. A fight broke out between them and they had to be separated by security personnel. The complainant reported the matter to police and was treated at hospital for a facial laceration.

Magistrate Alison Burke released Derrick on $5 000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 2 for the medical report and sentencing.
