Lawrence cops a break

He stole a woman’s cellular phone but apologized quickly after for his actions.

That apology saved Shem Akim Anthony Lawrence from a possible jail term after the complainant told the court she was no longer interested in pursuing the matter.

The 17-year-old Lawrence of Kings Village, Dayrells Road, St Michael, had been charged with stealing a $500 cellphone belonging to Ernesta Thomas-Harvey on January 9, 2019.

However, when both the accused and complainant appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before Acting Magistrate Anika Jackson, Thomas Harvey said she was not prepared to offer evidence.

She said Lawrence had come to her and offered an apology and she had forgiven him.

The magistrate then dismissed the matter.
