Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Boyce is the proud recipient of the Caribbean Style and Culture Fashion Photographer Award 2019. Boyce, a former student of the Alexandra School, is the Creative Photography Director of RIADA Design & Photography studio. He told Bajan Vibes that he is elated to be selected as the winner.

“Honestly, I cannot explain how great it feels to be recognized for something that I put so much effort into. I really am still over the moon,” Boyce said, adding that he decided to enter the competition to boost his mounting list of accolades.

“I wanted to add this award to my list of [certifications] as a fashion and beauty photographer. I felt like this award would add to my pedigree while also bringing business awareness to the talent in the fashion industry in Barbados,” he said.

Boyce told Bajan Vibes that the award is definitely one of the highlights of his career and he is looking forward to showcasing an exhibition in Washington DC as a part of his prize.

“I have been published a few times in international publications as well, but this award is right up there with some of my achievements. I am also putting together an exhibition to display during my time in Washington, so I am also excited about that too,” he said, adding that the piece he entered for the competition was to be unique.

“I had put together 10 pieces for the competition, but the main theme behind them was all about being unique and creating unorthodox looks to highlight the creativeness behind my photography and all the persons I worked with during the project,” Boyce said.

The former recipient of the Emerging Leaders of the Caribbean Scholarship said he has only been doing fashion photography in the past year but he is pleased with his achievements thus far.

“I took some time to study the industry and scheduled several practice sessions to improve my craft. After a fair amount of practice, I started being published by magazines internationally and it really all came together after that,” he said, adding that international models and local artistes have come to appreciate his photography.

“Persons usually reach out to me from [my postings] on Instagram and that is how I get these prominent persons. It feels great, to be honest, and I feel that my work is finally being recognized. I put a lot of work into studying photography, fashion photography and then retouching as well, as I do all of my edits. I also studied marketing as well, so I would know how to market myself as a brand. It is a great relief. It is showing me that my hard work has not gone in vain,” Boyce said. (LG)
