Green House are Eden Lodge’s giants again

Green House broke a 12-year spell to dethrone perennial champions Gold House today at Eden Lodge Primary annual inter-house sports held today at Bridgefield, St. Thomas.

Green House athletes led by house captain and Under-13 Girls Division champ Ashlyn Simmons ensured that when the curtains came down this afternoon at the 2019 edition of Eden Lodge’s sports that they were the ones dancing in celebration having scored 410 points to lift the coveted trophy.

Gold House showed some fight going neck and neck with the new champions but were unable to get the type of results they had hoped for in the relays and were made to settle for second on 395 points. Third were Orange House with a total of 337 as they pipped Red House by one point [336] who finished fourth.

Simmons, the record holder in the Girls 600m open at the National Primary Schools Athletics Championship, stamped her authority to top her division with 40 points where she won the 400m in 1:14.40, clocked 35.30 seconds to win the 200m, placed first in the 100m in 14.30 seconds and the 600m which was done at the school.

Despite those top performances, Simmons was unable to capture victrix ludorum honours in her final year at the school. The trophy for most outstanding female went to Shanira Reid of Orange House in the Under-11 Girls age group with 44 points.

Reid was second to Simmons in the girls 600m open and came third in the cricket ball throw but won the 100m in 15.10 seconds, ran 37.10 seconds for victory in the 200m and was yet again unstoppable in 1:00.60 in the 300m.

Victor ludorum honours went to Romario Johnson of Red House as he accounted for 38 points ahead of fellow Under-13 Boys competitor Shomari Forde of Gold House who fell one point short in the running for the coveted ludorum title.

Johnson was second in the 800m open, third in the cricket ball throw and won the 100m in which he clocked 13.90 seconds. However, Johnson was made to settle for second in the 200m [33.70] and third in the 400m [1:19.00] behind Forde who won both races in 33.50 seconds and 1:15.50 respectively.

Forde was also first in the 800m open but placed sixth in the cricket ball throw, three places behind Johnson in that event which cost him an opportunity to score more points.

Tirique Collymore ran away with the Under-11 Boys Division scoring 26 points for Gold House on a day when he str    ode home to victory in the 100m [14.70] and the 300m [58.60] but finished in a time of 37.80 for third in the 200m.

The Under-nine Girls champion was Nyla Alleyne of Orange House with 26 points with first place in the 80m registering 13.60 seconds and second in both the 100m in 16.60 seconds and 150m in 28.60 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ke-Ray Hinds of Green House with 30 points captured the Under-nine Boys Division winning the 100m in 16.70 seconds, the 150m in 27.30 seconds and the 80m in 13.40 seconds.
