Primary school students return lost wallet

Four Reynold Weekes Primary School students have captured national attention for their good deed.

Nathan Leon Blackman, his twin sister Natalia Leon Blackman, their cousin Jaquon Blackman, and friend Jerome Forde, were at the bus stop in front of the St Philip school on Tuesday when they found a wallet belonging to Reginald Jones.

After contemplating what they should do with their unexpected find, the students opted to hand the wallet to snack vendor Ms Margaret, who sells outside the school. Ms Margaret ensured the wallet was returned safely to a relieved Jones.

Jaquon told Barbados TODAY he was relieved the wallet made it back to its owner. He said: “The wallet was returned to the owner because it was the right thing to do, and plus, we saw that a lot of money was in it and maybe he had bills to pay”.

Reynold Weekes Principal Anderson Bishop said he has been receiving calls from a number of people, including Ministry of Education officials, who offered words of congratulation to the students and the school.

He said he is proud of his young charges and emphasised Reynold Weekes Primary’s virtues of honesty, discipline and hard work.

The students are to be rewarded for their good deeds tomorrow morning during assembly at the school.  anestahenry@barbadostoday.bb
