Off to Disney

A group of terminally ill children will have the opportunity to experience their greatest wish – a trip to Disney World, thanks to a donation made to the Precious Touch Foundation by accountants at Emera (Caribbean) Incorporated (ECI) and The Barbados Light & Power Company Ltd (BL&P).

Leader of the employee led initiative, ECI’s Senior Accountant Dawn Leacock explained that during the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB) Annual Week of Activities, accountants are encouraged to give back in the form of time, talent or treasure. She said, “After some brainstorming, we agreed that we wanted to help the Precious Touch Foundation to bring joy to some brave children who are fighting the biggest fight of their lives.”

This non-profit foundation is dedicated to granting the wishes of children between the ages of two and 16 who are diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions or are terminally ill.

During the presentation, Leacock said, “As accountants we are not only concerned with numbers; we care about people too. Some of us have children of our own so knowing that we are helping to put a smile on the faces of these children and bring some level of comfort in their suffering is invaluable to us.”

The Foundation’s Public Relations Officer Shakida Belgrave thanked ECI and BL&P for their donation. “It will definitely go towards making the lives of some of our children so much more fulfilling and make their wishes and dreams come alive. It will go a long way.”
