Ex-boyfriend ordered to keep the peace

A young woman who was assaulted by her now ex-boyfriend asked the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court to ensure that “he see me and don’t see me”.

That was the request of Kitana Grant today after 20-year-old Devere Elon Tony Gittens, of Holder’s Land, Brandon’s, St Michael pleaded guilty to assaulting her on February 28 causing her actual bodily harm.

Following the facts and Gittens’ explanation for his actions, Grant told the court that her back has been hurting since the incident.

“The relationship is over. I just want he to see me and don’t see me, I don’t want any compensation,” she said.

Magistrate Douglas Fredrick then placed the accused on a bond to keep the peace for the next six months. If he breaches the order he will have to pay the court $1,000 forthwith or spend three months in prison.

Gittens must also attend anger management through the Probation Department and return on April 9 to update the court.

No conviction will be recorded against him if he adheres to both orders.
