Champion of champions

Reigning champions of the National Primary Schools Athletics Championship, City of Bridgetown St. Giles Primary Conquerors (girls) and Bayley’s Primary (boys) are queens and kings of the biannual Champion of Champions competition held today at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

Now in its third year, the ten champion schools from the five zones (Patsy Callender, Obadele Thompson, Andrea Blackett, Anton Norris, and Jim Wedderburn) came together and competed with much fervour.

St. Giles Primary are titleholders for the second consecutive time among the girls with 324 points.

Good Shepherd Primary placed second with 258 points, All Saints Primary (252) were third and fourth position (173) went to St. Catherine’s Primary. West Terrace Primary, winners of the girls in the Patsy Callender would have made up the fifth zone for the girls but they did not feature.

Bayley’s Primary raced away with the boy’s trophy having amassed 344 points ahead of All Saints Primary (257) in the second position while St. George Primary Lions (229) were third and Elliott Belgrave Primary (164) came fourth. St. Alban’s Primary won the boys’ in the Andrea Blackett zone but they did not compete.

Joint victrix ludorum Tia Applewhaite of St. Giles Primary and Kiami- Rae Orford of Good Shepherd Primary accumulated 30 points each.

Applewhaite, the Under-13 Girls champion won the 100m (13.35), the 200m (26.80), the 400m (1:04.75) along with the long jump with a 4.28m measurement.

Orford featuring in the Under-11 Girls picked up gold in the 300m (49.93), the 200m (30:44) and the long jump (3.83m).

The spoils for victor ludorum were also shared between Zachary Wall of St. George Primary and Shai Thorne of Bayley’s Primary who accounted for 30 points each.

Wall in the Under-11 males was unstoppable winning the 100m (13.90), the 200m (28.25) and the 300m (49:84). Meanwhile, Thorne competing in the Under-nine Boys took the top podium finish in the 100m (14.57), the 1500m (22.24) and the long jump in 3.60m.

In the Under-13 Boys, Jamarion Mapp of Elliott Belgrave Primary ruled with 26 points when he touched down first to win the 100m (13:78) and the 200m (26:64). Mapp was also third in the 800m (2:31.11) behind Teshon White of Bay Primary (2:30.96) and Jymarian Mallett of St. George Primary (2:30.89).

The Under-seven Boys Division star was Shaqoun Brathwaite of All Saints Primary scoring 24 points. Brathwaite was second in three events starting with 50m dash (9:58) won by Mykah Jones of Bay Primary in 9:54 seconds.

Brathwaite jumped 1:49m in the standing broad jump for second place, Bay Primary pair of Jones (1:56m) and Ky-Mani Inniss (1:44m) were first and third respectively.

In the tennis ball throw, Brathwaite had a silver medal throw of 25:09m and winning that event was Elijah Barton of Bay Primary with a 26:98m distance. 

St. Giles Primary won the Under-seven and nine Girls age group compliments Maniyah Moore- Franklyn and Rejada Hinds. 

Hinds tallied 28 points and was victorious in the Under-nine Girls 150m (25.86), the long jump with a 3.72m showing and picked up silver in the 100m (16.24) which was won in a split second by Kenya Ashton of Good Shepherd Primary (16.23).

Moore-Franklyn in the Under-seven Girls captured first in the 50m in 9.80 seconds, the standing broad jump (1.38m) and fourth in the tennis ball throw for a total of 25 points.
