Chrisy’s Care held its first fun day at Illaro Court, Two Mile Hill, St Michael on Saturday.

Owner of Chrisy’s Care Christine Roberts said she decided to have the event after realizing that there were no fairs on the island that catered to children with special needs.

“I take children in my institution to fairs around the island and I realized that they did not cater to special needs children. So, I decided I would hold my own fun day just for special needs children,” she told Barbados TODAY.

Roberts said she was pleased with the response she received at the inaugural event.

“I know there are a lot of events today. However, I am not disappointed with the number of children here today. We have a lot of information booths where parents can get information from a number of organizations and charities about where they can get help for their special needs child and also raise awareness about the different types of special needs,” she said.

Members of the special needs community were treated to a demonstration by a fire officer Corey Bridgeman and got a chance to use some of the equipment which they thoroughly enjoyed.

They also enjoyed the jumping tents and game machines which allowed them to compete in friendly competitions to see who could score the most in the basketball game.

The event also included face painting, a CPR demonstration by St John Ambulance Association of Barbados Inc, a demonstration in self-defense, blood pressure and blood sugar checks as well as photograph taken at the selfie machine. (LG)
