Guilty, not guilty

A suspected marijuana grower withdrew his guilty plea today just moments after admitting to four drug charges.

When 25-year-old Kyle Tito Wesley Lovell, of St Stephens Hill Landing Scheme, St Michael appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court he informed the court that he wanted to plead guilty to charges of possession, possession with intent to supply, possession with intent to supply and cultivation of cannabis.

Lovell pleaded guilty to the charges after Magistrate Douglas Frederick read them. The prosecutor, Sergeant St Clair Phillips then outlined the facts.

However, when asked whether he wanted to say anything Lovell claimed that the police came from a neighbor’s yard to the house where he was staying on March 8, 2019 and he never saw a warrant.

“The only warrant I saw was a gun in my face,” Lovell claimed. Frederick informed him that he was only guilty of the crime if he committed it.

“It [the drugs] was in my possession but it was not mine, it was in my possession,” the accused stated.

Frederick again questioned him on his reason for the guilty pleas.

Lovell replied: “Because it was round me.”

The magistrate then put the scenario to him that he was in a courtroom with several things around including a computer.

“Is the computer yours?” the magistrate asked to which Lovell replied: “No sir, I would like to change my plea to not guilty.”

The guilty pleas were withdrawn and Lovell who has been on remand for the past 28 days also accused of having a firearm and 23 rounds of ammunition in his possession on March 8, 2019, without the valid licences to do so, was again remanded to Dodds until May 7, 2019.
