Police search reveals drugs on teen

Nineteen-year-old Malkia Isaiah Knight says marijuana keeps him calm but that was not the case when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.

Knight, of Lower Flagstaff, St Michael, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Douglas Frederick to possession of nine grammes of cannabis worth $45. The drugs were found in his groin area after police conducted a search of the teenager along Villa Road, Brittons Hill.

Sergeant St Clair Phillips told the court that police were conducting an exercise when they came across Knight walking. They stopped him and a search was requested to which he consented and the illicit substance was found.

He allegedly told police at the time “I buy that weed from a fella in The Pine for $75”.

From the docks today however he told the magistrate that he was not going to use the drug as of today causing those attending the sitting to chuckle.

“ I apologise. It does keep me calm, it is how it does make me feel [but] I have to stop from today . . . Because I don’t want to come back through this here,” Knight said.

The first-time offender then spoke with a probation officer who recommended that he perform 180 hours of community service as well as attend a drug counseling programme and random drug testing.

He returns to court on August 30, 2019 to give the magistrate an update.
