Spanish lessons

One hundred students will learn written and conversational Spanish as well as get a taste of Venezuelan culture as The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Barbados and the Venezuelan Institute of Culture and Cooperation embark on their cultural exchange programme. The welcome and orientation event for the programme was held at the National Union of Public Workers, Dalkeith Road, St Michael headquarters.

The students who are from a wide cross-section of Barbados were praised for registering for the classes.

Head of the Diplomatic Mission in Barbados Alvaro Sanchez told the participants that despite the ongoing challenges in Venezuela the country is still committed to ensuring that Barbadians are able to speak Spanish.

“Unfortunately, Venezuela is going through a difficult situation due to the illegal multilateral sanctions the American president Donald Trump has imposed on Venezuela and they are taking a toll on the Venezuelan population in terms of the state of our economy. Of course, that affects the well-being of our diplomatic missions abroad. In spite of that… we are absolutely committed, and we believe by reaching out to Barbadian people and Caribbean people, we will continue to [maintain] that the Caribbean is a zone of peace,” he said.
