Two drug accused granted bail

Two men on a number of drug charges were granted bail when they appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.

They are 36-year-old Corrie Randolph Walkes of Apt No.3, Lot 263 Lowlands Park, Christ Church, an accountant at the Central Bank of Barbados and 33-year-old Dale Orlando Nicholls of Scotts Terrace, Grazettes, St Michael, a landscaper.

The men are jointly charged with possession, possession with intent to supply and possession with intent to traffic 15 pounds of cannabis – estimated street value $30,000.

Walkes denied the charges while Nicholls pleaded guilty.

Police acting on information went to Scotts Terrace, Grazettes, St Michael on April 20 and intercepted a vehicle occupied by the two men. During that time one of the accused was seen throwing a duffle bag out of the vehicle which was retrieved and searched. The drugs were contained in three packages.

Nicholls is separately charged with possession, possession with intent to supply and possession with intent to traffic 20 packages of cannabis weighing 158 pounds – estimated street value $316,000.

Police say the illicit substance was found at Nicholls’ residence where a search warrant was executed on April 20.

He was not required to plea to the indictable charges when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick this afternoon.

Walkes was granted $15,000 bail while Nicholls was granted $120,000 bail to return to court on September 16.
