Richard Cox has passed away

One of Barbados’ most passionate road safety advocates has passed away.

Public Relations Officer of the Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) Richard Cox died this morning after suffering a brief illness.

Cox, who turned 78 this year, was recently hospitalised after complaining of chest pains.

He passed away at home.

In reaction to the news this morning, President of the BRSA Sharmane Roland-Bowen told Barbados TODAY she was hurt.

Recalling the tremendous support he gave to the association over the years, Roland-Bowen said the father figure would be missed.

“We, the executive and members of the Barbados Road Safety Association are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate passing of a friend and colleague, Mr Richard Cox, PRO of the Barbados Road Safety Association. Mr Cox served this country well as a stalwart and advocate for safe driving.

“We would like to extend our condolences at this time to his family, his friends and those who would have benefitted from his vast knowledge of road safety and … practical driving in this country. May he rest in peace,” said Roland-Bowen.

Cox joined the BRSA about three decades ago and became PRO in the early 2000’s.

Cox previously lived in England where he worked in the transportation industry. (MM)
