Eyebrows have been raised around the region after several high-profile players failed to find a home during yesterday’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft in London.
Leading the list of notable Caribbean absentees for the upcoming season were Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo and Kevon Cooper.
The case of Simmons is particularly surprising as things seem to have spun in a 180-degree direction. Only a few months ago the player was selected as the first pick of the 2018 draft for the St Lucia Stars.
On that occasion, Simmons went for $US 160,000 after entering the draft for $US 70,000. The Trinidadian native entered the draft at the same price but this time around found no takers.
The much-travelled Simmons previously played for the Jamaica Tallahwahs, Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The 36-year-old Smith, who previously opened for Barbados Tridents and Amazon Warriors, also found himself without a team after entering in the $US 70,000 category.
Another stunning omission, maybe the most surprising, from the team selection was Barbadian-born Englishman Jofra Archer, who was the most expensive ever Caribbean-born player for the 2018 IPL season. The all-rounder also had several big performances in the Australia Big Bash League. The player was recently selected for the England World Cup squad. (SportsMax)

Kevin Alleyne......I happen to AGREE with you.
Ordinary cricketer in my opinion....don't know why all the hype...his figures are not that flattering..the ONLY thing that he has in his favor is that he can bowl fast ... people are going to see through him this WC
Chris Jordan IS a better all- round cricketer than him.
Not surprise that Cooper has gone unpick this time since in most formats that he has been picked recently ,he has only played one match which maybe because of his action.
Simmons thought he had it made, but his fall from grace fell when he decided to follow the actions of Pollard and Ramdin, not knowing that his was more obvious.
Bishoo is not suitable for T20,Smiths' form has deteriorated considerably and Ambris is unlucky.
Simmons
I didnt expect him to be picked. The WICB way of thinking is petty and there is no way in hell they would have picked him. The origins of their thinking stem from way back in the colonial era when one mistake and that was the end of you.
@Kevin Alleyne He performed really well in the Big Bash and IPL. That and the fact that he is talented bowler who bowls at 90mph and can bat. That's his claim to fame.
I might get cursed for this but I'm honestly tired of seeing his pic and reading his name. What is his claim to fame? Absolutely nothing as yet...
It's understandable with Archer because he's too good for the CPL and they probably couldn't afford him anyway while the others are past their best
GOOD...
