Storm Watch: Dorian knocks out power in South

Southern Barbados has begun to feel the strongest effects of Tropical Storm Dorian as it takes direct aim for the island.
Several people have reported power outages in sections of St Philip, St John and Christ Church amid reports of high winds, thunder, lightning and short bursts of heavy rain.
At 8 p.m. a US Air Force Hurricane Hunter located TS Dorian’s centre at just 30 miles east-southeast of Barbados, moving towards the west-northwest at 14 miles per hour, the US National Hurricane Centre reported.
It said: “Dorian is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 3 to 8 inches in the Windward Islands from Martinique south to St. Vincent, including Barbados,” the NHC weather advisory said.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the storm’s centre, it added.
