Murder accused to get new trial

The murder case against Matthew Anderson Farley and Jefferson Tramaine Diego Broomes has ended in a mistrial.

The 12-member jury, which heard evidence in the matter in which Broomes, of Hannays, St Lucy and Farley, of 21 Row Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael have been charged with the death of 38-year-old Cosmo Alonza Hinds on September 26, 2013, where unable to reach a decision on the murder indictment after almost five hours of deliberations yesterday.

This means the two men – Broomes who is on bail and Farley who is on remand at HMP Dodds – will have to be retried on the charge.

Attorneys-at-law Andrew Pilgrim Q.C. and Sian Lange represented Broomes, while Farley had Verla DePeiza as his legal counsel. Senior Crown Counsel Neville Watson and Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas were the prosecutors in the case which was heard in the No. 3 Supreme Court.

Justice Carlisle Greaves was the trial judge.
