Theatre at its best . . . Clue On Stage a top-notch production

Intriguing, thrilling, exciting and exhilarating!

Those words best described what transpired at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination last Sunday when Mustardseed Productions presented Clue On Stage.

The play, which brings life to a classic board game, was well executed by both the cast and the production team. The cast which comprises actors ranging from age 17 to 19, delivered top-notch acting. Through their lines and acting they had the audience fully engaged and connected well.

Director Levi King must be commended for the mastery which took place on stage. Praise must also go to Producer Varia Williams who spoke at the end of the production thanking the entire team for hours of hard work and dedication.

Now to the play. The night starts with a meeting called by a mystery person. Six individuals, who received special invitations, converge at one house. The group which has nothing in common is intrigued as to why they were being targeted.

The host for the night is Wasworth the Butler who knows way more than he is letting on. He is joined by The Cook and Yvette, the French Maid as workers on the estate.

The group has dinner, gets a tour of the house and then all is revealed. Wasworth discloses that they are all being blackmailed by a character called Mr Boddy. All six were initially in denial pretending to have absolutely no clue why they were there until Wasworth took great pleasure in pointing out their indiscretions.  Wasworth dishes out the dirt on each guest, one by one, causing pandemonium.

Professor Plum, whose specialty is social and behavioural studies, has his licence revoked while he is busy putting away lunatics. Mrs Peacock, a God-fearing Christian, is taking bribes for her senator husband. Mrs Scarlett, the realist character, is a prostitute who makes no apologies for being the “lady of the night”. Mrs White, who has had three marriages, killed her husband who mysteriously disappeared. She claims she was at the movies… Colonel Mustard is revealed to be homosexual while Mr Green was caught embezzling.

After all is revealed, the group is introduced to the alleged mastermind, Mr Boddy, who claims to have “all the dirt” on them in his briefcase. Wasworth then gives them each an item which is to be used as a weapon. A gun is given to Mrs Peacock. Suddenly shots are fired and Mr Boddy is flat on the floor.

This first murder starts a chain of mystery murders which tallied six. Dead are: Mr Boddy, The Cook, Yvette, the French Maid, The Police and The Motorist.

The Motorist who is Colonel Mustard’s driver, comes to the house and the character The Police comes later when shots are fired. Suspicion grows as Wasworth attempts to cast blame on the six invited guests saying no one else is in the house. This sets about a frantic night of murder, lies and hilarity as everyone who is a suspect is also in fear of being killed.

In the end, all is revealed when Mr Green identifies himself as a Criminal Investigation Division (CID) agent who is carrying out a sting operation. He claims he met with the real Mr Green and decided to impersonate him in order to get to the bottom of the saga.

With six unsolved murders, Mr Green exposes multiple killers, each in a desperate effort to conceal their dark secrets. During Mr Green’s revelation there is an altercation between him and Wasworth causing the undercover cop to shoot the butler who is the real mastermind behind the entire night.

The colourful and dramatic character Wasworth laments that he feels life leaving his body, and he is going to be worm food as he takes his last breath.

At this time, the packed audience at EBBC bursts out in uncontrollable laughter. (IMC)
