Yellow Bees sting way to title at Springer

The effects of Yellow House Stinging Bees’ dominance on the track, scoring 657 points, was too much for main rivals Blue Blazers to handle when Springer Memorial held their track and field championship today at the National Stadium.
Yellow, led by victrix ludorum and Division Three champion Azariah Alleyne who amassed 101 points, captured their fourth consecutive title a clear 93.50 points ahead of Blue. The Green House Tigers tallied 406.50 for third position, the Red Fighting Phoenix accumulated 343.50 to place fourth place and finishing fifth on 307.50 points were Purple Titans.
The former Barbados Secondary School Athletics Championship (BSSAC) powerhouses, Springer is looking good with the likes of Division One champion and CARIFTA athlete Anika Blackman of Blue.
Blackman was part of today’s 4x400m record-breaking team when she and teammates Regina Lowe, Kiamara Best-Cox and Deandra Foster registered 4:19.44 to shatter the previous record of 4:29.27 set last year by Yellow.
It was the type of performance that former Blue House representative and Barbados Olympian Akela Jones was elated about, as she cheered the record breakers on from the sidelines.

Blackman, one of the top upcoming hurdlers in Barbados finished the day on 56 points for Blue. She won the 100m hurdles in 14.83 seconds but did not challenge the record of 14.67 seconds set in 2012 by none other than Jones. She also earned gold in the 400m hurdles, clocking 75.26 and would have needed to push a lot harder to break the 66.27 record belonging to Ashanna Hodge also set in 2012.
Blackman also won the long jump, was second in the 100m and 200m, came third in the high jump and fifth in the discus.
Among the other top performers today was Division Two sensation Kennedy Jackman of Yellow. She tallied 48 points with gold in the 400m and 800m, silver in the 1500m, and bronze medal performances in the 200m and 3000m. She also finished fifth in the 100m and high jump.
Division Four champion, Aneele Trotman of Yellow registered 51 points. She competed in various events and cashed in on points both on and off the field.
Meanwhile, T’Nia Lashley of Blue scored 98 points for top honours in Division Five. Lashley was unstoppable in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 75m hurdles, high jump, long jump and came second in the 200m hurdles.
