Health Local News COVID-19: All geriatric hospital visits restricted Barbados Today12/03/2020131 views Senior Medical Officer Dr Anton Best Everyday life in Barbados is about change yet again in the wake of the COVID-19 as the Ministry of Health moved today to restrict visits to all geriatric hospitals, home to those most vulnerable to the disease. Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Anton Best said today that in an effort to protect the elderly population, who were most vulnerable to respiratory diseases, visits will be restricted to the Geriatric Hospital on Beckles Road; the St Lucy District Hospital, River Bay; the St Philip District Hospital, Jezreel; and in St Thomas at the Gordon Cummins Hospital in Rock Hall. With immediate effect, all visits by groups, including churches, schools and service organizations, are to end until further notice, the ministry ordered. Visits by relatives and friends are to be restricted to regular visiting hours between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. daily. Anyone experiencing sore throat, cough, runny nose or fever should stay away from visiting a geriatric hospital and visitors should limit the time they spend at the hospital, the ministry advised in a statement.
