No car stickers, licences for now

The distribution of vehicle registration stickers and new or renewed driving licences are on hold during the public health emergency, the Barbados Licensing Authority has said.

In a statement last week, the Ministry of Finance announced that there would be no penalty for expired registration stickers or licences right now.

Carolyn Williams-Gayle, the authority’s communications manager said the suspension would considerably reduce the number of people coming to the authority’s offices. Her comments came prior to the two-week shutdown of public offices announced tonight by acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw.

The licensing authority spokeswoman said: “A significant portion of the foot traffic into our offices on a monthly basis is related to licensing transactions. In an effort to maintain public health and safety during this emergency period, we are limiting as far as possible in-person interactions with the public at the Authority. So there is no need to come to our offices to collect registration stickers or licences at this time.

“If you have a query or need assistance from the Authority use the contact line 535-8239 or customer email for support, but stay at home to help contain the virus.”

The authority is not listed among the essential services expected to be open during the intensified health emergency.
