UWI Cave Hill Campus resumes classes online from tomorrow

After an approximate three-week interruption due to COVID-19, semester two at The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus resumes tomorrow, the institution has announced in a statement.

It said: “Teaching will take place online for all students, wherever possible, including those who returned home to various countries around the world.

During the three-week online teaching period, which concludes on Friday, April 24, 2020, the timetable that applied during the previous face-to-face classes will remain unchanged. This means that irrespective of which country or time zone a student is in, Eastern Caribbean time will apply.”

The Campus had suspended all face-to face teaching on March 18, a day after Barbados moved to Stage 1 of its National Preparedness Plan for the COVID-19 pandemic. It was announced at the time that classes will resume on April 6.

The UWI has also disclosed that the examination period will run May 11 to June 12, 2020.

In addition, UWI notes there will be no summer school this year. Instead, the period will be used to enable students needing to graduate to complete supplemental examinations, orals and different forms of assistance to complete the academic year.

The changeover to facilitate fully online classes was coordinated by a newly-established Campus Continuation Committee on Online Learning. (PR)
