Passengers checking in

Richard Carter

Government has had success in locating several persons who recently returned to the island.

That is according to COVID-19 Czar Richard Carter who revealed that “hundreds” of people had been making contact after the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ statement yesterday in which they called for all persons who arrived in Barbados from the United States or the United Kingdom between March 15 and 22 to make contact.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Anton Best advised that the measure was being taken so that the ministry can establish a register of those persons and make regular contact to ensure they remain well.

“The response has been quite positive thus far. That is the word from the health officer who is managing that situation. We have had hundreds of people calling in and reporting in so it has been quite positive,” Carter said.

The policy to quarantine all travellers entering Barbados from the United States and the United Kingdom went into effect on March 22.

In the latest figures released by health officials today, there have been 66 cases of COVID-19 in Barbados and so far 11 recovered.

The number of deaths from the virus remains at three.
