Veteran songwriter/producer launches new music video

Veteran singer, songwriter and producer Alan Sheppard is urging people in Barbados and around the world to rally behind frontline workers facing the COVID-19 pandemic head on.

Using a cellular phone and other necessary equipment at his residence, Sheppard has produced the music video Noise for the Frontline, which is a call for people to show gratitude and give encouragement to doctors, nurses, police, and all other professionals facing “the enemy COVID-19 to save lives”.

“The one thing we can do is clap our hands and say thank you which is basically what the song is all about. And the reason why I did it is to raise awareness and to raise the vibration of people around the world, starting from here in Barbados. Barbados can start the spark that lights around the world,” Sheppard said during a media launch on Zoom this morning.

Sheppard, who has toured worldwide as lead singer and songwriter of the group Spice and Company, said the song will be posted on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other social media pages where members of the public will be encouraged to like and share.

“That’s all that’s in it for me. I just want to raise the vibration of hope, courage and faith that we will see this through together and come out on the other side as a better world,” he said.

He explained that the words for the song were repurposed from the Spice and Company 1994 hit Make Noise, which he said ironically was the year of the first Congaline Carnival, held on May 1.

Like like other entertainers, Sheppard has also been significantly affected by the pandemic. He said all of his booked shows, many of which would have been sold out, were cancelled.

He said he empathised with his fellow entertainment colleagues, and commended Prime Minister Mia Mottley for the work she has been doing to get the country through this tough period. (AH)
