Prescod says sorry for Warde’s death

Confessed manslayer Nishawn Diandre Prescod has issued an apology to the family of the late Brinsley Warde who was murdered on October 9, 2015.

“With all due respect sir I humbly apologise to the deceased’s family. I also want to say that I am repentant for being in front this court on such a matter. I was young and unwise and followed bad company. When I realised it was too late,” the Hinds Gap, Halls Road, St Michael, resident said as he addressed Justice Randall Worrell earlier this week.

The now 24-year-old, who was 18 at the time he was charged, continued: “Sir, we all make mistakes. I am asking that under any conditions that I be granted my freedom. I have intentions of going home and  . . . making my mother happy and staying away from bad company, sir.”

Prescod, who has spent some 1,699 days on remand, previously entered a plea of not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter in connection with Warde’s death. He is scheduled to reappear before Justice Worrell on Wednesday, June 17.

Warde was in an altercation with three men, one of whom was Prescod. The situation deteriorated into a stone-throwing incident near the exit of Queen’s Park and spilled over onto Nursery Drive.

The altercation saw the men beating on Warde and one of the culprits stabbed him. Warde collapsed and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A postmortem revealed that Warde’s death was as a result of hemorrhagic shock from a stab wound to the back.

“My position is I didn’t do that man anything I try to stop the two others,” Prescod told police during the investigations.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Alliston Seale, who outlined the facts of the case explained that from the evidence compiled on Prescod, he was not the one who administered the fatal blow but was charged on the basis of joint enterprise.
