Earlier today, Pan-Africanist David Denny announced on social media that the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) had granted permission for the protest outside the US Embassy from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. “We are inviting all Barbadians to come out and join this protest next to the US Embassy’s building in Wildey, St Michael. I wish to thank the police for allowing us to hold the event and I look forward to seeing many Barbadians at our activity,” he said. Last month, Denny led a similar Black Lives Matter solidarity protest. The demonstrations are part of Barbados’ response to the worldwide protests against the racial discrimination black people face from law enforcement agencies and other bodies. The issue reached a boiling point in May when an African American man, George Floyd, was killed when a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for nearly eight minutes while arresting him.
