Walk Holy Band delivers food hampers on Kadooment route

Grand Kadooment Day 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but that did not stop the Walk Holy Band from taking to the streets this morning.

They started at the National Stadium around 9:30 a.m. and ended at the roundabout at the bottom of University Hill around midday.

In keeping with its standards and values, band members traversed the route delivering food hampers and cheering members of the public who rushed to the side of the road as they heard the music truck approaching.

Bandleader Kathy Weekes said the initiative was a partnership between the Walk Holy Band and Praise Academy of Dance.

“Our very presence alone put a smile on people’s faces and they were even dancing on the road. It was a pleasure to be there and I think the people were happy that we were on the road. They heard the music and they were running coming to the road to see what was happening and some of them were surprised because they knew that there was no Kadooment Day this morning.

Weekes thanked the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) for not only granting permission for the band to be on the road, but also for providing personnel to accompany them along the route.

“We were able to bless the people from the household perspective and then we gave snacks to the children running around. We were able to bless both the little ones and older ones; males and females came running to us.

“The officers were extremely helpful and courteous and everything good so we are very thankful for their presence and allowing us to be on the road. We are also going to do a similar initiative by giving back to the community at the end of the month. We know that COVID-19 has affected so many members of our community,” Weekes said. (AH)
