More wet weather ahead – Met Office

Barbadians can expect more rain overnight, as Barbados Meteorological Services forecasters maintain a flash flood warning.

For most of the day, a leading edge of a  tropical wave dumped almost 50 millimetres (two inches) of rainfall and flooded some communities.

The forecasters said the passing wave and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, a permanent band of clouds and showers that has shifted further north, will likely generate more moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms through to Tuesday.

Additional rainfall accumulations of 20.0 to 40.0 mm (0.8 to 1.6 inches) in moderate to heavy showers have been predicted.

The Met Office has cautioned residents to prepare for significant flooding on roads and fields, runoff from higher elevations, soil erosion likely on exposed or scarred land surfaces and flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads.

The flash flood warning is due to expire tomorrow at 6 a.m.
