Praise Academy of Dance offering 30 scholarships

Praise Academy of Dance will be offering 30 one-year scholarships to students in the Valerie, Collymore Rock, St Michael community.

The announcement was made this evening next to the resource centre in Valerie, where scores of people from the community were treated to an enjoyable evening that involved dancing, music, food and the distribution of gifts, thanks to an initiative organized by Praise Academy of Dance and the Walk Holy Kadooment Band.

It was also announced that for a period of three consecutive Saturdays, starting next week, Praise Academy will be hosting free dance classes for children between ages six and 12.

Praise Academy’s event planner/manager, Angela Harper, told Barbados TODAY that under the Academy’s Caribbean School of Art, residents will also be able to enroll in CAPE and CXC lesson programmes.

The two groups joined forces with Restoration Ministries Church, which usually conducts a feeding programme in the area on Tuesdays and Thursdays, targeting needy families.

Children were given basic school supplies, while adults received packages containing food items.

Kathy Weekes from Walk Holy said she was pleased that there was what she has described as an overwhelming response to the event.

Weekes, also a member of Praise Academy’s board said the organization was happy to assist considering that it is headquartered in the area.

“So this event is basically for Praise Academy to meet the community. And this is also an extension of a food supply drive we had on Kadooment Day this year where Walk Holy Band, thanks to sponsors, distributed food supplies to families along the route where the bands usually pass,” Weekes said.
