WEATHER UPDATE – Atlantic basin a ‘hive of activity’ but no threat to Barbados

The Atlantic basin is currently a “ hive of activity” with two hurricanes, two storms and a depression but “these systems pose no threat to Barbados.”

Hurricane Paulette is presently affecting Bermuda; while Hurricane Sally approaches the coast of Alabama, USA. Tropical Storm Teddy was located near 12.8 N 42.8 W and is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and a turn toward the northwest is forecast by Wednesday.

The twentieth named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Vicky is expected to be short-lived while Rene continues to maintain tropical depression status.

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said based on the current locations and forecast tracks “these systems pose no threat to Barbados. As Tropical Storm Teddy moves across the tropical Atlantic a reduction in wind speeds is forecast over Barbados from mid-week. As a result, conditions during this time will be uncomfortably hot during the day and night.

“Additionally, localized activity could likely result in some districts experiencing some showers and possible flash flooding,” the BMS said in a statement.
