Gov’t mincing words on same sex

A man of God has accused Government of “sidestepping” the issue of same sex marriage by using the term “civil partnerships”.

Pastor Carl Barker of the Shalem Evangelical Church said true Christians would never call holy what God has already condemned.

“Christians who hold the Bible to be God’s unerring word believe that when sin is not only practised, but esteemed to be right, it has a deleterious effect not only on the perpetrators, but also on the nation itself,” Pastor Barker said.

The minister of the Gospel said it was “disingenuous” of Government to compare rights and privileges as a means to push a gay agenda. He stated that sooner or later such reasoning will be used to proffer arguments in support of criminal activity as well.

“There is an old, tired and should be retired ploy of using past wrongs to justify the implementation of a present scheme. This insidious technique has been used over and over again to link a desire which is against God’s plan, with a past injustice, so as to endeavour to give it credibility. My question is, will the liars, thieves, pedophiles and prostitutes soon say: “There was a time when we were discriminated against, but now . . .?”

“It is also of concern that the imposition was announced via a throne speech, which is normally not debated in Parliament, except there is a special resolution to do so.  Also, by using the term ‘civil partnership,’ the Government has very cleverly sidestepped the issue of same sex marriage. However, a rose by any other name still has thorns,” the pastor said.

Barker pointed out that the Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, in the recent throne speech, read, but not written by her, sought to compare the enactment of civil partnerships with universal adult suffrage, a woman’s right to vote, and the Tenantry Freehold Purchase act among others.

“There are two things that can be considered questionable. The first is that there are some inalienable rights that should never have been violated. A person who was born black will die black except in the case of some complex surgical procedure.”

He added: “Secondly, a person born a female will die a female in spite of surgical procedures to change that biological fact. The DNA cannot as far as we know be altered. Also, to say that each of the wrongs mentioned by her was ‘highly controversial and bitterly opposed’ does not square well with the facts.”

The pastor explained that there should always be a distinction between nature and nurture.

“A behaviour that has been cultivated has to be distinguished from one that is inborn. Science has proved conclusively that a person is not born a homosexual. A person is no more born a homosexual than a person is born a thief. As to discrimination, what will we allow and what will we disallow? We cannot accede to every desire of mankind, so we will always have to make a determination. One cannot practise medicine or law without meeting certain criteria. Is this discrimination?” Pastor Barker asked.
