Probe into Hoyte’s death continues

The mysterious discovery of a 61-year-old woman’s body at the foot of a St. Lucy cliff has broken the hearts and baffled the minds of her closest relatives.

The body of Celia Hoyte, of Key Land, Bagatelle, St. Thomas was discovered on Sunday near the Animal Flower Cave in St. Lucy prompting a police investigation.

People living in her community were mostly tight-lipped about the development. One woman, who identified herself only as Hoyte’s niece revealed that she has been crying ever since the news broke.

“My mind is telling me that it is a dream. That is the truth,” she told reporters.

The relative indicated that she last saw her aunt alive on Saturday evening and was shocked when photos of her aunt’s lifeless body began to surface on social media.

“I saw it on social media and I said this looks like Celia. This can’t be Celia, but this looks like Celia. I know her well and I know the structure of her face and everything. I cried the whole night and I cried today and I keep crying,” said the grieving relative.

“I don’t know how she got all down there, I don’t know. I don’t know who did this to her,” she added.

Barbados TODAY understands that the deceased worked at the Barbados Postal Service for “a long time”, but was now into housework.

According to Hoyte’s neice, her aunt was a very meticulous person who took tremendous pride in the upkeep of her home and surroundings in general.

She reportedly lived with her daughter and grandson, however they have not been seen at the family home for some time.

“She would come and sit down there and talk to me and I was encouraging her to take the cans and plant herbs,” the relative lamented.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss personnel from the ambulance and Barbados Fire Service recovered her body about 70 feet down the cliff around noon on Sunday. Now, lawmen are appealing for the assistance of anyone who can help. (KS)
