$10 000 Back To School drive

Haigh Communications Inc. and Yankee Garments Ltd together with a private donor will give $10 000 in school uniform gift vouchers to the most vulnerable.

The initiative by Haigh Communications Inc. was conceptionalized only the day before the start of school after chief executive officer of the company
Joy -Ann Haigh recognized that many parents were still struggling last minute to purchase school uniforms and other supplies.

This resulted in one private donor sending a $5 000 cheque directly to Yankee Garments Ltd and Yankee Garments in turn matching the donation dollar for dollar bringing the total value to $10 000 in gift vouchers.

Haigh indicated that based on requests from reputable NGOs and government agencies that manage poverty alleviation, the vouchers will be distributed through these entities and in cases where the parent is in urgent need then the voucher will be issued directly by Haigh Communications.

These vouchers can only be redeemed at Yankee Garments Ltd located in Building 1 Newton Industrial Park, Christ Church.

Haigh said: “I am always happy to see companies pulling together when needed and I want to encourage Barbadians to support companies that support others in need. As my daughter’s grandmother would say, now recently deceased, ‘you have to bet who bet you’.”

The CEO also said that more will be done in the near future to bring additional companies together, big and small, to help meet the various needs of the most vulnerable.

However she further stated that it was okay to give a man a fish today but the ultimate goal was to give him the rod tomorrow as it was vital to encourage self-help when and where possible.

The uniform gift vouchers expire November 1. (PR)
