Three new positive COVID-19 cases, three recoveries

Three new patients are in isolation after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and three others left the isolation facility today after recovering from the viral illness.

The new cases are a 34-year-old male visitor who arrived on Trans Guyana on September 30; a 32-year-old female who has been identified as a contact of the male visitor and who also arrived on September 30 on Trans Guyana; and a 37-year-old male visitor who came in on British Airways on October 3.

All three, who were initially negative for the virus, had been in mandatory quarantine since arriving in Barbados because both Guyana and the United Kingdom are categorised as high-risk countries. They were diagnosed as positive after being retested.

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory returned 380 test results today. That brings the total conducted to date to 29,397.

The tally of recorded cases now stands at 218. Sixteen people are in isolation and 195 people have recovered.
